Natural Links
A programme of seasonal, environmentally-linked activities for community groups
Natural Links is a Big Lottery Funded programme, co-ordinated by Shared Earth Trust and based at Denmark Farm.
Natural Links:
- Raises awareness and helps promote care for the environment
- Brings people together including those who would otherwise find it difficult to participate
- Encourages people to care for themselves, each other and the environment
Natural Links shows people how they can make a difference to their lives and the places around them.
How Natural Links works:
- Programmes involve various seasonal activities, such as green woodwork, wildlife gardening, art and craft and nature walks
- Each community group attends for 3-5 days during a programme
- Residential or separate day visits are possible
- Groups work alongside a skilled facilitator
- A seasonal celebration takes place at the end of each programme
- There is no charge and support is available for transport
Winter Programme 2009/10
Our winter programme 'Woodland Wonderland' is now under way and involves community groups in woodland conservation tasks, hedgelaying and greenwood crafts. Five groups are working alongside experienced facilitators Tony Eames and Peter Drake. One of the groups is a UNA Exchange international youth project who are staying at Denmark Farm for two weeks in January.
Although the winter programme is already full there will be opportunities for people to get involved in a variety of activities under a 'Sustainability Project' umbrella, which commences early spring 2010. Possible projects may include a rainwater recycling system; solar lighting and hot water installation; and a simple timber shelter construction.
